ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College and Augusta University will fight for the 2021 Spring Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Tournament title tomorrow at Flagler Gymnasium at 3 p.m.
The two teams split the two regular season matches as each won on their home floor. Flagler won 3-2 (25-17, 21-25, 16-25, 25-18, 15-13) on March 6 at Flagler Gymnasium while Augusta won 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-18) at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Logan Garcia led the Saints with 21 kills, a .300 hitting percentage, and had six total blocks in those two matches.
Rebekah Machovec added 17 kills and 18 digs while
Jordan Taylor supplied 11 kills and six total blocks.
Kennedy Muff tallied 67 assists and 19 digs.
Karolina Garstka paced the defense with 34 digs.
Cameron Fenner had four aces.
Kylie Martin led the Jaguars with 26 kills, 25 digs, and five aces. Chloe Allen added 20 kills, 14 digs, nine total blocks, and had five aces. Samantha Zittrauer tallied 48 assists and Holland Martin collected 39 digs.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Flagler leads the all-time series 20-8, but Augusta has won 6-of-the-last-7 matches. The Saints are 11-2 against the Jaguars at home. Augusta's last win at Flagler Gymnasium was Oct. 4, 2019, 3-2.
RE-MATCH
These two teams fought for the 2019 PBC title with Augusta winning its second consecutive tournament title with a 3-0 sweep at Aiken, South Carolina. Tournament MVP Nicolette Ramos led the Jaguars with 12 kills and hit .391. Augusta held Flagler to a season-low .036 hitting percentage. Muff tallied 16 assists.
PBC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Since joining the league in 2009, the Saints are 26-5 in 11 PBC Tournament appearances. Flagler has won six tourney crowns (2009, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017) and played in nine title matches.
ALL-CONFERENCE SELECTIONS
Flagler has three players on the All-PBC first-team:
Logan Garcia,
Kennedy Muff, and
Rachel Machovec. Muff was selected as the PBC's Setter of the Year.
Augusta had two members on the All-PBC first-team: Chloe Allen and Kylie Martin.
SCOUTING FLAGLER
The Saints having the best hitting percentage in the league with a .205 mark. Flagler is second in assists per set (11.76), kills per set (13.38), and is third in aces per set (1.61).
Logan Garcia leads the PBC with a .353 hitting percentage, is sixth in blocks per set (0.94), and is ninth in kills per set (2.41).
Kennedy Muff is second in assists per set (9.58) and is fourth in hitting percentage (.299).
Rebekah Machovec is fifth in kills per set (2.84) while
Karolina Garstka is seventh in digs per set (3.76).
Flagler has won seven in a row. The last loss for the Saints was a 3-1 defeat at Augusta on March 26.
SCOUTING AUGUSTA
The Jaguars lead the league in aces per set at 2.40. Holland Martin (0.53), Brooklyn Holthaus (0.52), Kylie Martin (0.47), and Kiera Barr (0.45) are the top four in the league in aces per set. Kylie Allen is hitting at a .270 clip, which is fifth in the PBC. Martin is averaging 2.81 kills per set.
Augusta has won 12 matches in a row. Their last loss was on March 13, at UNC Pembroke, 3-1.
