COLUMBUS, Ga. — The result mirrored the type of match the No. 14 Flagler College women's tennis team envisioned at No. 13 Columbus State University as the Cougars edged the Saints, 4-3, Friday in the Peach Belt Conference match at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
 
"We came just a bit short today but against an always well-coached CSU team," Flagler head coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "We didn't come out strong enough in doubles, but we were able to bounce back and played great tennis during singles play. The girls know we were very close to take the match, and I also know that they are disappointed that it didn't go our way. However, this loss is going to make us stronger to hopefully be able to face them again during the conference tournament."
 
Flagler (8-4, 2-1 PBC) wasn't able to win a doubles match as the Cougars (9-3, 4-0) took the point, but the Saints didn't hang their heads. Amelie Vossgaetter and Florencia Massardo Brain won on courts No. 5 and 6, respectively, in straight sets to keep the Saints within striking distance. The outcome on court No. 2 proved to be the match-clinching win as Luisa Hrda was edged in a three-set thriller, while Alessandra Traub pulled out a come-from-behind victory to secure the third point for Flagler.
 
Up Next: The Saints will aim to bounce back at Georgia Southwestern University Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
