ST. AUGUSTINE –
Logan Garcia led a balanced Flagler College offensive attack with 11 kills in a 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-21) sweep of Young Harris College in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday evening at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler improved to 11-3 overall and 9-1 in the Peach Belt. Young Harris is now 0-8 overall and in conference play.
"This was another great team effort, and I'm really impressed by the focus and determination we showed from the very beginning to set the tone of the match," said head coach
Matt Affolder. "I thought our servers had some moments of really pressuring their passers, and both Logan and Tori (Bowrosen) were clicking offensively."
Garcia hit .529 for the match as she had only two errors on 17 swings.
Victoria Bowrosen added seven kills while
Kennedy Muff and
Morgan Hall each had six kills. Muff tallied 28 assists and had seven digs.
Karolina Garstka led the defense with 10 digs.
Edie Lamoreaux recorded three service aces.
Flagler hit .297 for the match, which included a .471 percentage in the first set.
Hailey Hart and Jessica Beckner each finished with five kills for the Mountain Lions. Alex Bodystone tallied 10 assists and Hart led the team with eight digs.
The Saints opened the first set on a 6-1 tear and never looked back.
Rebekah Machovec and Garcia each recorded three kills for Flagler.
The second set featured seven ties and four lead changes. The Saints held an 11-10 lead but went on an 8-1 run to pull away. Four different Flagler players had a kill in that spurt. Muff and Hall led the Saints with three kills each in that set.
Young Harris hung around in the third set and was within a point (22-21) late. But three consecutive kills by Garcia ended the match.
"It has been an interesting week as we had some sickness roll through the team, and it was great to see us jump right on them and compete," said Affolder. "We haven't seen too much team play with our practice sessions due to players being out for a few days, so I know they are hungry to battle again tomorrow versus a very energetic and athletic Lander team. It will be great to honor our three tremendous seniors who have been a part of some major championships and shining moments for our program."
Flagler will honor its three seniors (
Lindsay Glynn,
Karlie Redfern, and
Jordan Taylor) before tomorrow's match at 3 p.m. against Lander University.
