Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's tennis splits Saturday doubleheader to conclude regular season

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — It's been a crazy last 24 hours for the Flagler College men's tennis team. On Friday, continuous rain forced the Saints to postpone Senior Day versus Young Harris College a day and double-up Peach Belt Conference play Saturday, along with its already-scheduled matchup against No. 12-ranked University of North Georgia, to wrap the regular season at the Flagler Tennis Center.

Flagler (7-10, 4-3 PBC) began the day with a 4-0 sweep of the Mountain Lions (7-9, 3-4) before falling to the Nighthawks (10-3, 5-2) hours afterwards. Now, the Saints will await to see if they quality for postseason play.

Versus Young Harris, the Saints started off quickly in doubles as Philipp Lemken/Diego Amilibia took the first point and Nikita Tatyanin /Cedric Holzmann secured the doubles point with a 6-1 win. Flagler took the momentum into singles with three consecutive straight-set wins as No. 23-ranked Tatyanin, Lemken and Holzmann all won their matches to propel the Saints in that order.

"We won convincingly versus Young Harris today," Flagler head coach Thomas Hipp said. "We did well from start to finish, which is surprising giving all the adversity with rain and rescheduling issues. So, I am proud how well my guys responded."

Against North Georgia, Lemken was the lone Saint to secure a win, coming on court three in straight sets for his second win of the day, as the Nighthawks took the doubles point and won on courts five, six, and two to clinch the 4-1 victory.

"We played well but lacked energy at the end against a very good North Georgia team," Hipp said. "It was tough to play two matches, but we can be proud of our fight and resilience we showed today. Hopefully, we qualify for postseason!"
