No. 14 Saints finish final regular-season road trip victorious

GREENWOOD, S.C. — In the final Peach Belt Conference regular-season road match, the No. 14 Flagler College women's tennis team left victorious behind a 6-1 victory over Lander University at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center. The win signified the Saints' third straight win and fifth in conference play ahead of a pair of massive matches at home next weekend versus Young Harris and No. 16 North Georgia, beginning at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

"It was a great way to finish our last regular-season conference road trip with a win," Flagler head coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "However, for us to be successful in the postseason, we need to be more consistent in our level of play. We have to have everyone show up at the same time to prove we can be a championship-caliber team as those type of teams compete at a high level, especially in the crucial matches. It'll be important for us to show that mindset this upcoming weekend — ahead of the conference tournament — as our regional and beyond aspirations begin there."

Flagler (11-4, 5-1 PBC) got off to a fast start in doubles as the Saints won all three matches, and then followed it up by winning the first five singles' matches. No. 24-ranked Eden Schlagenhauf and No. 31-ranked Luisa Hrda won on courts No. 2 and 1, respectively, in straight sets to win their third straight apiece. Next, was Florencia Massardo Brain reeling off her seventh consecutive victory with the match-clinching point in straight sets on court five, while Paloma Martinez won in back-to-back days on No. 6 and Amelie Vossgaetter toughed out a three-set tiebreaker for her seventh in a row on court four. Lander (8-8, 3-4) was able to avoid the sweep in No. 3 singles as Maria Key edged Alessandra Traub in the third set.
