ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The line-up looked very different Sunday from when the No. 9 Flagler College men's tennis team last faced No. 19-ranked Delta State University a little over a week ago in Oklahoma.
In that indoors matchup, the Saints were unable to solidify a point but at the Flagler Tennis Center, the Saints (2-4) made this rematch a close one. It came down to the No. 1 singles match as
Rasmus Jonsson was edged in the third set in Flagler's narrow 4-3 loss to Delta State (4-1) on a windy afternoon.
"We had a very tough and close match today versus Delta State," Flagler head coach
Thomas Hipp said. "With our new line-up, it came down to the last match at 3:3, and Rasmus lost the clinching match in the third set at number one. We showed some improvements in our game style and hopefully that will translate into good tennis on Wednesday versus Washburn."
Nikita Tatyanin,
Philipp Lemken and
William Jonsson all won their second singles' matches of the weekend as Tatyanin and Lemken won in straight sets. Jonsson then pulled out a third-set victory on the No. 6 court.
