ST. AUGUSTINE –
Jaiden Warde's walk-off bases loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Flagler College a 6-5 win over Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday evening at Drysdale Field.
Flagler has reeled off four consecutive wins to improve to 4-7 overall and evened its Peach Belt record at 3-3. Lander had its two-game winning streak snapped and fell to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
"That was a big hit by Jaiden Warde," said head coach Dave Barnett. "Our offense finally got it clicking tonight.
Zach Audet and
Gage Voorhees pitched really well."
With the score deadlocked at 5-all going into the home half of the ninth, the Saints treated Bearcat reliever Praise Thorsen (1-2) rudely.
Matthew Burke led off the inning with a single to shortstop and
Chase Carney followed with a base hit to left. Burke and Carney each moved up a base on a wild pitch. With one out,
Sam Freedman was given an intentional walk to load the bases. Warde belted a 1-0 pitch to deep left field to end the game.
Sam Freedman hit a two-run home run to right field to tie the game in the fifth inning.
Gage Voorhees (1-0) picked up his first win for the Crimson & Gold as he pitched a scoreless inning and two-thirds. He struck out two and walked one.
Nathan Henderson started the game and fanned five batters while
Zach Audet tossed 5 1/3 innings in relief and struck out seven, which tied his career high.
Carney collected four singles and scored two runs. Burke went 2-for-4 with a double and scored two runs.
Thorsen tossed one-third of an inning, allowed three hits, and the game-winning run.
Roury Glanton went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and one run batted in for the Bearcats. Landon Dupert finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run and three RBI. Walker McDowell singled twice and scored two runs.
The same two teams will meet in a noon doubleheader at Drysdale Field.
