ST. AUGUSTINE –
Myles Colangelo's walk-off two-run single gave Flagler College an 8-7 win in 11 innings in Sunday's opener against Lander University at Drysdale Field. Lander took game two, 15-4.
Flagler won its second consecutive PBC series and now holds a 5-8 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the Peach Belt. Lander leaves with an 8-4 record and 5-3 in conference play.
In the opener, the Saints trailed 7-6 going into the bottom of the 11
th. After two quick outs were recorded,
Chase Carney hit a single and
Adam Mitchell followed with a base hit to center. Carney was able to get to third on Mitchell's hit, and Mitchell scampered to second on the throw to third.
Sam Freedman drew an intentional walk to set up a force at any base and Colangelo followed by taking a 1-1 pitch into center to plate both runs.
Colangelo collected three singles and had two runs batted in. Austin Thomas hit a pair of doubles, scored a run, and drove in another. Mitchell and
Matthew Burke each hit two singles. Burke drove in two runs and Mitchell scored two runs.
Ryan Ayrey (1-1) picked up the win in relief. He scattered two hits and allowed one run over six innings of work. Ayrey fanned a season-high five batters.
Kyle Morton started and tossed five innings.
Ward Betts went 2-for-5 with a double, one run scored, and one RBI for the Bearcats. Mason Streeter was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.
Zach Pellegrino (0-1) took the loss for Lander. He allowed two runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings.
In the second game, Lander sent 13 men to the plate and scored 10 runs in the second inning. Tyler Prell and Bo Richey each hit a grand slam in the frame.
Richey went 4-for-4 with two home runs, six RBI, and he scored three runs. Prell went 3-for-5 with a double along with the grand slam and finished with four RBI.
Carson Schlegel (2-0) surrendered four runs on five hits in six innings to get the win for the Bearcats.
Jake Kaufman collected two singles for the Saints and
Tyler Keith hit a two-run home run in the third inning.
Colt Mink (1-2) allowed nine runs on seven hits in 1 1.3 innings pitched.
Flagler hosts Young Harris College next weekend (March 13-14) at Drysdale Field.
