AUGUSTA, Ga. — In a last-minute added match, the No. 20 Flagler College men's tennis team faced a familiar conference face as the Saints traveled to Augusta University Tuesday and left with a 5-2 win to snap a three-match skid and get back on track.
"We came out slow in the doubles, feeling the five-hour drive, but with fortune pulled off the doubles point," Flagler head coach
Thomas Hipp said. "In singles, we looked much better, securing the win as Philipp clinched the match for us, winning at position three. "On Friday, we will face a doubleheader, which will be a physical pair of matches for us."
Since the Saints (5-8) already competed with the Jaguars (4-5) in Peach Belt Conference play, this match did not goes towards the conference standings. Flagler will now welcome a pair of teams —Keiser University and St. Thomas University — for exhibition matches at the Flagler Tennis Center Friday, beginning at 11 a.m.
After Flagler battled through and won the doubles point thanks to the duo of
Nikita Tatyanin and
Cedric Holzmann beginning with a win and
Rasmus Jonsson and
William Jonsson solidifying it, the Saints won three straight singles matches to secure the match win.
On court No. 4, Holzmann won in consecutive sets as
Diego Amilibia followed suit for his second straight win on court No. 5 and
Philipp Lemken clinched on the third court to give Flagler the win. No. 1 singles player
Nikita Tatyanin was the fifth point as took a two-set win alike his teammates for the 5-2 road victory.
