ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The Flagler College men's tennis team is finally getting into a groove.
In winning its second-straight match Saturday in a 6-1 victory over Georgia College at the Flagler Tennis Center, the No. 18 Saints have strung together back-to-back wins for the first time this season, with both coming in Peach Belt Conference play.
"We had a good performance today, all the way from the doubles through the singles," Flagler head coach
Thomas Hipp said. "It nice to see that some key things we wanted to improve on work out today. Hopefully we can build on that momentum."
Flagler (4-5, 2-0 PBC) ended its five-match stretch over eight days exactly how Hipp had hoped with his new line-up intact. In doubles, the Saints won the point for the second straight day as
Philipp Lemken and
Halil Aydogdu won their third consecutive and the last four of five matches.
Nikita Tatyanin/
Cedric Holzmann followed up their first win in doubles Saturday with another one, and then
Rasmus Jonsson/
Slobodan Cejovic finished with the sweep with their 6-3 victory.
In singles, Lemken continued to quickly get business done on court No. 3 as he won his second in as many days and the fourth of his last five matches, while No. 1 player Tatyanin continued to roll with his sixth win in a row to improve to 6-2 in singles. In back-to-back days, Holzmann clinched with this third win of the year and second straight. Just after Holzmann won, Aydogdu picked up his first collegiate win with Flagler on court No. 6.
Max Berner lost a close three-setter on court No. 5, while Jonsson rallied for the three-set win in No. 2 singles to take the 6-1 win over GC (2-3, 0-1 PBC).
The Saints will have a little over a week off before heading to Jacksonville, Florida for a match with the University of North Florida at 2 p.m.
