COLUMBUS, Ga. — The No. 14 Flagler College women's tennis team stepped outside of conference play for a top-25 matchup Monday, facing No. 25 Auburn University at Montgomery at the Columbus State University's John W. Walden Tennis Center and exiting with a 7-0 win for their third straight and the fifth in six matches.
"We had a great team win today, playing a very tough AUM team on the road," Flagler head coach
Rodrigo Puebla said. "It was tough to get back into match play since we played our last match 16 days ago. After winning the doubles point, the girls managed to come out even stronger in singles and showed great effort and consistency in their games. Now, we need to focus on CSU and that is going to be a great match, if we can keep doing the right things."
Flagler (8-3) will be back in Columbus, Georgia, for a Peach Belt Conference match versus the No. 13 Cougars Friday at 2 p.m.
It's been over two weeks since the Saints had competed, and it was obvious in how they came out versus the Warhawks (6-4). In doubles,
Eden Schlagenhauf and
Luisa Hrda solidified the first point as they edged out a 7-5 win after
Alessandra Traub and
Florencia Massardo Brain put Flagler in position with the first doubles' win.
The momentum then shifted into singles with every Saint winning their respective match in straight sets. No. 5 singles' player
Amelie Vossgaetter won Flagler's first singles point with her third straight win, while Hrda won her fourth in a row on the No. 2 court and Massardo Brain clinched the match victory en route to her third consecutive, with this one coming on court No. 6.
Schlagenhauf kept the wins rolling as she edged out her sixth consecutive straight-set victory on the No. 1 singles' court and Traub got back on track with a win on court No. 3.
Anika Nissen wrapped up the sweep on the fourth court as she joined Schlagenhauf with her sixth two-set win in a row to cap the Saints' fourth sweep of the season.
