MONTGOMERY, Ala.— Ahead of its first Peach Belt Conference road match, the No. 20 Flagler College men's tennis team made a pitstop at the Auburn University at Montgomery Saturday.
Diego Amilibia secured the lone point for the Saints as the Warhawks were the first to four points to solidify the 4-1 win at the AUM Tennis Complex in Montgomery, Alabama.
"We lost today 1:4 versus a good AUM team," Flagler head coach
Thomas Hipp said. "We actually played well but lacked fortune in the crucial moments. Besides losing, we can be content with the match. Hopefully we can bounce back versus Columbus State."
The Saints (4-7) will now head to No. 1 Columbus State University for a 9 a.m. first serve Sunday, with a chance to pick up a big win and remain undefeated in conference play.
Amilibia's win on court No. 5 cut the Warhawks' lead in half, but then David Rieme rallied in a three-set win in No. 2 singles with
Rasmus Jonsson to seal the match win for AUM (7-5). On court No. 3,
Philipp Lemken was en route to his second set win for the point, while
William Jonsson was battling on the No. 6 court in a knotted up set three but those matches were unfinished. AUM took the early lead with a win in doubles on courts No. 2 and 3.
