COLUMBUS, Ga. — The No. 20 Flagler College men's tennis team had a tall task versus the reigning national champion and No. 1 Columbus State University Sunday as the Saints dropped the Peach Belt Conference match, 7-0.
"We lost 7-0 against the reigning national champion," Flagler head coach
Thomas Hipp said. "The result looks very one-sided, but we actually competed well and played some good tennis. Their championship experience helped them in the crucial moments. Hopefully we can keep up the tennis because it will produce some better-looking results."
CSU (11-0, 3-0 PBC) took the doubles points and then was challenged in singles.
Nikita Tatyanin and
Rasmus Jonsson took their opponents to three-set matches to put the Cougars on their heels.
Cedric Holzmann had a close set-one loss for Flagler (Flagler 4-8, 2-1) to back up the three-set matches.
Up Next: The Saints will welcome St. Thomas University for an exhibition match before resuming PBC play when Flagler heads to Lander University for a match Saturday, April 10 at 10 a.m.
