ST. AUGUSTINE –
Victoria Bowrosen recorded a match-high 12 kills as Flagler College swept Francis Marion (25-16, 26-24, 25-17) in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler won its sixth match in a row and improved to 8-2 overall and 6-0 in the Peach Belt. Francis Marion dropped to 1-4 overall and in conference play.
"It was great to see the balance we had tonight, and everyone made a difference with their effort and energy," said head coach
Matt Affolder. "Tori played exceptional tonight with a ton of confidence in her swings and all-around game. Lindsay put together another great performance and has really boosted us with her play on the right side. There were so many individual efforts and big touches made by every player."
Bowrosen hit .421 for the match as she only had four errors on 19 swings.
Rebekah Machovec added nine kills and seven digs.
Kennedy Muff tallied 37 assists and had six kills.
Karolina Garstka led the defense with 11 digs and
Logan Garcia racked up five total blocks.
Lexi Albright and Kayla Arthur led the Patriots with seven kills apiece. Albright added nine digs. Kaylee Gillespie tallied 16 assists.
Flagler used a 10-0 run to put Francis Marion in a 20-8 hole in the first set. Bowrosen recorded five kills and hit .833 in the set. The Saints hit .423 as a team with 15 kills and four errors on 26 swings. Francis Marion was limited to a .040 hitting percentage.
The Patriots held a 17-13 lead in the second set, but the Saints rallied back to tie the score at 22 after an attack error by the Patriots. A pair of kills by Bowrosen gave Flagler a 25-24 lead and then a setting error on FMU ended the set.
Flagler sprinted out to a 12-5 lead in the third set and rolled to the win. Machovec had five kills on seven errorless swings for a .714 hitting percentage. The Saints hit .538 in the set with 16 kills and just two errors on 26 swings.
Flagler hosts UNC Pembroke tomorrow (March 20) at 3 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
"We know UNC Pembroke is coming in here as one of the hottest teams in the PBC and I know our team will be ready for another battle," said Affolder.
