ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — In a season where games could be canceled within 24 hours, the Flagler College men's soccer team has reeled off three wins in seven days.
Sunday marked the most recent as the Saints scored a pair of goals in each half en route to a 4-0 victory and their third straight Peach Belt Conference win on Senior Day at Saints Field.
"Another good performance from the team," Flagler head coach
Chris Kranjc said. "Three games within in a week is a tough thing to do so really proud of everyone's contribution."
Flagler's lone senior,
Peik Koskinen, was responsible for two assists, both of which came in the opening half. The first was in the 29th minute when he scooted it over to
Matteo Costa, and then the junior flicked it in to give the Saints (3-2-1, 3-2-1 PBC) the early lead over USC Aiken (0-2-0, 0-2-0). The next assist came just before half as
Joran Osland stayed active on the offensive side, taking the pass to the left and depositing it into the right corner for the 2-0 lead.
Peik, our lone senior, has been a great person and player for our team," Kranjc said. "His work rate and quality is something we will definitely miss."
Koskinen now has three assists, along with Osland, to lead the Saints. Costa took full possession of the team's goal leader when he opened scoring in the second half with this second of the game and third of the season. In the 52nd minute, he dribbled upfield and shot it past the goalkeeper to give the Saints the 3-0 lead.
Just minutes later,
Max Lambertz headed in a pass from
Fannar Fjolnisson to cap the scoring and add onto the Saints' 12 shots on goal. In all, Flagler had 25 shots to the Pacers' five and just one on goal. USC Aiken had eight saves as starter Brendan Gribek had six of them, while reliever Felipe Cerda had one in his six minutes of relief. For the Saints,
Andrea Lubbia picked up his third straight win in goal with one save in 70-plus minutes as
Jared Marsano finished the match in the net for Flagler.
Up Next: The Saints will have a week off before traveling to Georgia Southwestern Monday, March 22, for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff in Americus, Ga.
