No. 9 Saints cap five-match stretch with PBC sweep

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — It was a great Peach Belt Conference-opening weekend for the No. 9 Flagler College women's tennis team.

Flagler followed its victory Friday with another one Saturday as the Saints blanked visiting Georgia College, 7-0, at the Flagler Tennis Center for their second-straight victory.

"It was great to have a full line-up today and being able to compete at a high level," Flagler head coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "We came out very strong in doubles and we were able to finish up with strong singles play. We've had a long week with five matches in eight days, so we will need to rest up, recover, and come back stronger next weekend."

The Saints (7-3, 2-0) finished their long stretch of matches at 4-1 and ended it the right way: with a sweep. For the second straight day, Flagler was awarded a point in both singles and doubles due to a lack of players for the opposing team and the Saints took full advantage.

In doubles, the duo of Alessandra Traub/Florenica Massardo Brain won their fourth doubles points over the five matches, while Eden Schlagenhauf/Luisa Hrda were back together again with a 6-0 win for opening-doubles' point.

The momentum shifted into singles as Schlangenhauf and Anika Nissen won their fifth consecutive matches on courts No. 1 and No. 5 respectively, while Hrda won her second straight and her first since indoors in February. Clinching the match before Nissen finished was Massardo Brain for her second win in as many days, and then capping off the 7-0 win over GC (3-4, 0-1 PBC) was Amelie Vossgaetter on court No. 3 to give Flagler great energy to build onto.

Up Next: The Saints will have a week off before hosting Savannah State University Saturday, March 20 at 1 p.m.
