Flagler keeps on winning with 3-1 victory at YHC

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Rebekah Machovec recorded her second double-double of the season with a season-high 17 kills and 14 digs to help Flagler College defeat Young Harris College, 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-14, 25-12), in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon at the YHC Basketball Arena.

Flagler won its fourth match in a row and improved to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in the Peach Belt. Young Harris is now 0-3 overall and in conference play.

"We are excited to finish this long road trip with two more conference victories," said head coach Matt Affolder. "I thought Young Harris came out very energetic and strong from the service line which caused some issues for us, but we started to win those battles as well as play more disciplined defense. Our middles, once again, played at a high level and were very efficient, and Kennedy made some fantastic connections on some tough passes/digs which created momentum for us."

Logan Garcia added 12 digs and finished with a .588 hitting percentage as she had only two errors on 17 swings. Kennedy Muff also had a double-double with 41 assists and 15 digs. Edie Lamoreaux added 16 digs and had two aces. Lindsey Glynn had eight kills on 20 errorless swings to finish with a .400 hitting percentage.

Hailey Hart led the Mountain Lions with 10 kills while Jessica Bleckner added nine kills and hit .389. Alex Boydstone tallied 23 assists and Emily DeBerry collected 13 digs.

In the first set, the Saints used a 7-1 run to break open a 12-all set. Rebekah Machovec had four kills in that run. She finished the set with six and a .412 hitting percentage. Flagler hit .368 with 18 kills and two errors on 38 swings.

The Mountain Lions opened the second set with a 3-0 lead and was up 12-4 before the Saints rallied back to tie the set at 17. A kill by Hart, a hitting error by Flagler, an ace by Hart, and a block by Boydstone and Marie Ahern gave Young Harris a 23-19 lead. They were able to withstand a charge by the Saints and close out the set with a 25-23 win.

The Saints were too strong in the third and fourth sets.

Flagler raced out to a 12-2 lead in the third to coast to the 25-14 win.

The Saints opened the fourth set on a 9-3 run and to cruise to a 25-12 win. Flagler hit a red-hot .500 with 16 kills and two errors on 28 swings. Rebekah Machovec hit .667 with six kills on nine errorless swings.
