MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –
Lindsay Glynn recorded a career-high 13 kills and helped lead a balanced Flagler College attack to a 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-14, 25-22) win over Georgia College in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Tuesday evening at the Centennial Center.
Flagler extended its winning streak to five matches and improved to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College dropped to 2-2 overall and in conference play.
"I'm incredibly proud of our team for the defensive discipline they showed as well as how determined we were to stay focused and keep putting pressure on through some long rallies," said head coach
Matt Affolder. "We blocked a ton of balls tonight, but GC covered many of them so the stats won't display the physicality we played with at the net. We also had many big-time physical swings, and even though they were getting a hand on them we were controlling the flow of the rally and eventually finished the point."
Glynn finished with a .310 hitting percentage as she had just four errors on 29 swings.
Logan Garcia added 12 kills, hit .333, and added six total blocks.
Rebekah Machovec notched her third double-double of the season with 11 kills and 22 digs. Kennedy also finished with a double-double, her fourth of the season, as she tallied 45 assists to go along with 16 digs. She was kill shy of a triple-double.
Karolina Garstka paced the defense with 26 digs.
"Kennedy clearly had a big-time match as she was one kill shy of a triple-double," said Affolder. "She was drawing so much attention due to her offensive abilities that it created great situations for our middles to succeed.
Lindsay Glynn had some great swings tonight and had her best match of the season. And it was great to see Karolina back on the floor as she made a major impact defensively and seemed to be keyed in on every attack."
Sarah Stewart led the Bobcats with 16 kills and 18 digs. Emily Sweatman added 10 kills and three total blocks. Lauren Talele registered 34 assists while Libby Bochniak collected 22 digs.
In the opening set, the Saints took a 12-11 lead on a hitting error by the Bobcats and never relinquished the lead. Coming out of a Georgia College timeout, Flagler got back-to-back blocks, Glynn and Garcia on the first then Garcia solo, and then a kill by Glynn to take a commanding 22-15 lead.
Flagler hit .268 for the set and held Georgia College to a .130 percentage.
The second set saw the Bobcats hold the Saints to a .060 hitting percentage. Sweatman and Stewart each had four kills for Georgia College while Emma Boughner and Bochniak added three more apiece.
Flagler used a 5-0 run in the third set to pull away from Georgia College. A kill by Garcia started the run that featured two kills by Muff.
The fourth set saw Flagler hit a robust .395 and Georgia College hit a chilly -.026, but the Bobcats hung around. A service error by Boughner gave the Saints a 7-6 lead, but Georgia College was never more than six points down, which came at match point.
Flagler returns home to face Francis Marion University on Friday (March 19) at 6 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
