Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Saints edge Bobcats, 60-58

ST. AUGUSTINE – N'Mya Pierce recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds to help lead Flagler College to a 60-58 win over Georgia College in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler won its second game in a row and improved to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College lost its eighth game in a row and are now 1-8 overall and in conference play.

"I thought Georgia College played well on both ends of the floor," said head coach Mo Smith. "We had a chance to pull away a few times in the second half, but we missed some easy baskets to go along with some blown defensive assignments. I was proud of our team in getting some key stops to close out the game and come away with a win."

It was a back-and-forth game featuring seven ties and seven lead changes. Neither team held a double-digit lead.

Flagler's Sadie Russell sank a big three-pointer with 3:39 left in the game to knot the score at 55. Jaziana Mathis sank another trey 30 seconds later to put the Saints on top.

Georgia College had the answer, though, as Keyonna Wesley drained a three-pointer with 2:43 left to once again tie the game at 58.

Tori Pearce's layup with 1:25 remaining was the last field goal in the game.

The Bobcats had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds, but Harper Vick lost possession of the ball underneath the hoop and Russell corralled the loose ball for Flagler.

Russell finished with 13 points for Flagler while Mathis added 12 points and five rebounds. Pearce and Monique Bryant each dished out five assists.

Vick scored a game-high 26 points for Georgia College. She sank five of the Bobcats 11 three-pointers. Wesley contributed 12 points and eight rebounds. Jada Warren grabbed 10 boards.

Flagler is back in action next Saturday (Feb. 13) at Augusta University at 1:30 p.m.
