AIKEN, S.C. – Jaizec Lotte recorded his second double-double of the season with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds to help Flagler College hold off a late run by USC Aiken in a 69-65 win Wednesday evening in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game at the Convocation Center.
Flagler extends its winning streak to six games and improved to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the Peach Belt. That win streak is the longest since a six-game span in the 2016-17 season. USC Aiken dropped its second game in a row and fell to 6-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
"I am really thankful to get out of here with a win," said head coach
Chad Warner. "I thought we played with tremendous energy and execution in parts of the game, but we really struggled to finish and handle adversity late."
Flagler, which had not played since Jan. 23, trailed early 12-3, but finished the first half on a 34-10 run to take a 37-22 lead going into the break.
The Saints held the Pacers to 26.7 percent shooting from the field and scored 15 points off nine USCA turnovers.
The lead swelled to 21 (56-35) after a transition layup by
Tyler Collier with just under 13 minutes to go.
The Pacers answered with a 30-10 run culminating with a short jumper by Jalen McCoy to close the deficit to one (66-65) with 23 seconds left.
Lottie clinched the game for the Saints in the remaining seconds by making three-of-four free throw attempts. He made 9-of-13 from the charity stripe in the game. Lottie also dished out a game-high seven assists.
Derrick Ellis, Jr. added 12 points and four assists while
Jalen Barr provided 10 points, seven rebounds, and blocked three shots.
Marcus Henderson tallied a season-best five steals.
Tyler Johnson came off the bench to lead the Pacers with 12 points. Latreavin Black recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 20 rebounds. Damontez Oliver and Anyeuri Castillo tacked on 10 points apiece.
"There's no time to rest," added Warner. "We have maybe the hottest team in the league coming here on Saturday in Georgia College."
That game will follow the women's game around 3:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
NOTE: Flagler snapped a nine-game losing streak to USC Aiken and won for the first time at Aiken since the series started in 2007.
