ST. AUGUSTINE –
Jaizec Lottie scored 20 of his season-high 33 points in the first half as No. 21 (NABC/Division II Top 25) Flagler College rolled to a 90-76 win over Francis Marion University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Thursday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler improved to 9-2 overall and 7-1 in the Peach Belt. The Saints extended their winning streak to seven games, the program's longest since an eight-game stretch in the 2007-08 season. Francis Marion lost its fourth game in a row and dropped to 3-7 overall and in conference play.
"I am proud of assistant coaches (Blake) Selland and (Kip) Owens," said head coach
Chad Warner. "They did a tremendous job preparing our team with virtually no practice time. A lot of guys stepped up and that is going to have to be the case for us down the stretch. Buckle up!"
The Saints jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after a
Spencer Bain three-pointer and a Lottie layup and never look back.
Flagler held a 53-38 lead at the half thanks to 63.6 percent shooting from the floor. The Saints had too much inside outscoring the Patriots 24-10, 14 of those points coming from
Chris Metzger.
The Saints opened the second half on an 18-6 run to virtually put the game out of reach. A basket by Lottie with 13:51 left gave the Saints a commanding 71-44 lead.
The Patriots could only close the deficit to as little as 11 (81-70) with four minutes to go.
Lottie added seven rebounds and tallied a game-high seven assists for the Saints. Metzger finished with 20 points and nine rebounds while
Jalen Barr recorded his third double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Derrick Ellis, Jr. added 10 points.
Flagler shot a season-best 58.1 percent from the floor and the 11 steals was a season high.
Holden Redpath led the Patriots with 26 points and seven rebounds. Langston Gaither added 20 points while Darius Dawson contributed 14 more. Ja'Von Anderson came off the bench to tack on 11 points.
Flagler hits the road to face Augusta University on Saturday (Feb. 13) at 3:30 p.m.
