Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Central Oklahoma edges Flagler women in ITA Indoors opener, 4-2

EDMOND, Okla. — High-level competition was flowing through the ITA Division II Women's National Indoor Championship all opening-day Friday.

Because of that, the No. 10-ranked Flagler College women's tennis match was pushed back by over an hour at the Edmond Tennis Center versus host, No. 8-ranked University of Central Oklahoma. The pair of teams made the wait worth it as the fifth-seeded Saints dominated the doubles point, but then were edged in singles in a narrow 4-2 loss to the fourth-seeded Bronchos.

"I think we competed very well," Flagler head coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "Central Oklahoma has been here before, and I don't think we played at our highest level, but I think we battled until the very end in a high-intensity indoor environment. We also adjusted well to the conditions of going from outdoor to indoor, and I look forward to seeing the girls back on the courts the next two days."

Flagler (2-1) will now aim to bounce back Saturday afternoon when they play the eighth-seeded, No. 16-ranked Midwestern State University at 2:30 p.m. (CT).

In doubles, the duo of Eden Schlagenhauf/Luisa Hrda took the opening point 6-2, while Anika Nissen and Amelie Vossgaetter clinched with a 6-4 victory in the No. 3 doubles. The Saints saw their lone singles' point came via Nissen's straight-set win (6-2, 7-5), while Florencia Massardo Brain lost back-to-back tiebreaker sets and Hrda was edged in the Bronchos' clinch victory in the third set. Alessandra Traub came back from a set-one deficit with a tiebreaker win in the second, but did not finish due to the match-clinching win in the No. 2 singles.
