OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Fortune was not on the third-seeded Flagler College men's tennis team's side in day two of the ITA National Indoor Championship as the Saints were unable to secure a point in a 4-0 loss to seventh-seeded Delta State University inside the Oklahoma City Tennis Center Saturday morning.
"Today, we lost versus Delta State 4:0," head men's coach
Thomas Hipp said. "The matches were competitive. Unfortunately, we did not execute our game plan in the doubles. Hopefully, we can improve that for tomorrow's match which will be another battle!"
The Saints (0-3) will face the loser of fifth-seeded Concordia University Irvine/eighth-seeded Midwestern State University in the final match of the tournament at 8 a.m. Sunday.
No. 9 Flagler came out of the gates slow, dropping the doubles point, and after that, the Saints couldn't get into a groove. No. 19 ranked Delta State (4-1) was able to take the second point with back-to-back, 6-1, set wins in the No. 1 singles followed by wins on the No. 5 and No. 6 courts.
Nikita Tatyanin and
Rasmus Jonsson won their respective first sets but were unable to solidify their points in time to keep the Saints' chances alive.
Philipp Lemken's match was also unfinished as
Rodrigo Carvalho,
Diego Amilibia and
Max Berner completed their matches in straight sets.
