Balanced scoring aids Saints win over Mountain Lions

ST. AUGUSTINE – Jaizec Lottie led four Flagler College players in double figures with 20 points in a 93-84 win over Young Harris College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Monday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler extended its win streak to eight games and improved to 9-2 overall as well as 2-0 in the Peach Belt. Young Harris lost its third game in a row and dropped to 3-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

"I was proud of how many guys helped us win tonight," said head coach Chad Warner. "PBC wins are tough to come by. I thought Young Harris played really well and with great effort."

The Saints opened the game on a 12-2 run that was capped by a Jalen Barr dunk. The lead would grow to as many as 17 in the first half, before the teams went into the locker rooms with Flagler holding a 41-33 lead.

Flagler extended its lead to 19 (61-42) on a Lottie layup. The Saints looked like they would cruise to a win.

Midway in the second half, the Mountain Lions went on a 14-3 spurt over 3:14 to get the deficit to single digits (73-65) with just under seven minutes left to go.

Twice Young Harris pulled to within three points, but Flagler found an answer. The second time the Saints led 87-84 with 57 seconds left to go, but Lottie sank a three-pointer right in front of the Flagler bench with 31 seconds remaining to put the game out of reach.

Lottie added nine assists and seven rebounds to his line. Derrick Ellis, Jr. had season-highs with 19 points, eight assists, and four steals. Jalen Barr finished with his second double-double of the season with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Chris Metzger tacked on 10 points and six rebounds.

Flagler out-rebounded Young Harris 54-27 and had 17 offensive boards that led to 21 second chance points. The Saints out-scored the Mountain Lions 64-30 in the paint.

Carl Cleveland scored a game-high 31 points and added seven rebounds for Young Harris. Cleveland made six of YHC's 12 three pointers. Lenny Pradia added 19 points and six assists.
