Bowrosen helps Saints power past Braves, 3-1

PEMBROKE, N.C. – Victoria Bowrosen tied her career high with 15 kills to help lead Flagler College to a 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 18-25, 25-21) win over UNC Pembroke in a non-conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon at the Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

Flagler extended its winning streak to seven matches and improved to 12-3 overall. UNC Pembroke, a former member of the Peach Belt Conference, had its four-match winning streak snapped and fell to 16-7.

Bowrosen recorded 15 digs in a match vs. Augusta University (April 24, 2021) and vs. Lander University (Sept. 17, 2021).

Jordan Berglin added 11 kills while Kennedy Muff tallied 41 assists. Edie Lamoreaux collected 17 digs and had a career-best five aces. Molly Boyd recorded a season-high five total blocks.

Shannon Skryd led the Braves with 14 kills and 11 digs while Katelyn West and Erin O'Donnell added 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Katie Pressley tallied 37 assists and Brianna Warren recorded five total blocks.

Down 4-3 in the first set, the Saints scored nine consecutive points to seize control. Lamoreaux had three aces in that spurt. Bowrosen had five kills and the Saints posted a .379 hitting percentage in the set.

The second set featured seven ties and four lead changes. Trailing most of the set, Flagler caught UNC Pembroke after a Rachel Machovec ace knotted the score at 17. A little later, a hitting error by Warren, the first of five in a row by UNCP, gave the Saints the lead for good, 19-18. Boyd had four block assists for Flagler.

The third set was just as competitive with six ties and five lead changes. A 6-0 spurt by the Braves keyed the win.

A kill by Boyd sparked a 5-1 run, in the fourth set, that broke an 8-all tie. UNCP rallied to close to within three (24-21), but a Bowrosen spike ended the match. Berglin led the Saints with five kills.

Flagler returns home for its first home matches since Sept. 17. The Saints host Young Harris College on Friday (Oct. 15) at 6 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
