Berglin and Saints outlast Pacers in five

AIKEN, S.C. – Jordan Berglin finished with season highs in kills (20) and digs (22) as Flagler College outlasted USC Aiken 3-2 (22-25, 25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 15-10) in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday night at the Convocation Center.

Flagler won its sixth consecutive match to improve to 11-3 overall and 5-0 in the PBC. USC Aiken dropped to 13-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

For Berglin, this was her second double-double of her brief career. The freshman had five kills in the fifth and deciding set alone, including one on match point.

Victoria Bowrosen added 12 kills for the Saints while Logan Garcia provided eight kills and had five total blocks. Arianna Lopez contributed seven kills and five total blocks. Kennedy Muff tied her career-best with 53 assists. Edie Lamoreaux collected a career-high 30 digs. Rebekah Machovec gathered 19 digs and five total blocks.

The Saints hit .304 in the final set. The team finished with 10 kills and three errors on 23 swings. The Pacers hit .120.

Flagler opened the set on a 4-0 run and held an 11-3 lead after a Bowrosen kill. The Pacers closed to within three (13-10) after an Alisha Pitt kill, but that would be as close as they could get. A Lopez kill gave the Saints a 14-10 lead and Berglin finished the match.

Pitt led the Pacers with 16 kills and hit .444. Alie Smith recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 21 digs. Kari Mercer tallied 36 digs while Caroline Foster had 33 assists and 10 digs.

Flagler concludes its six-match road trip with a contest at former PBC rival UNC Pembroke tomorrow at 4 p.m.
