ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The Flagler College men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker Wednesday as Lander University edged the Saints in the final seconds of double overtime, 2-1, in the Peach Belt Conference matchup at Saints Field.
The Bearcats (7-4, 4-2 PBC) had a 23-to-15 shot advantage on the Saints (4-5, 3-3); however, the shots on goal were even at seven apiece. Flagler was the first to find the back of the net, coming just 36 seconds in when
Fannar Fjolnisson hit
Matteo Costa up the middle for the quick 1-0 lead. The score was Costa's team-leading 12th goal of the season.
In the 33rd minute, Lander responded with a rebounded shot that Kevin Rubaszewski put home for the equalizer, and then it was Tom Marriott who decided the final result just before the final buzzer as the 110th minute approached.
Up Next: The Saints return to the pitch Saturday when they travel to No. 5 Young Harris College, beginning at 1 p.m.
