ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Saturday will be one etched in the Flagler College women's soccer team's memory for years to come.
Not only was it Senior Day for
Annie Habeeb,
Hannah Dolores,
Lorena Lopez,
Maria Castorino Mujica, and
Lauren Lannan, but the Saints also honored Team IMPACT member
Savannah Lahtinen. Flagler then capped the memorable day with a lopsided, 11-0 blank of Albany State University as eight different players scored and 10 assists were registered at Saints Field.
"Today was a wonderful day to honor our seniors and Savannah," Flagler head coach
Ashley Martin said. "Seeing eight different goal scorers today was great, and we saw some wonderful finishes and assists."
The victory marked the fourth straight for the Saints (10-2-1, 6-2 PBC) and shattered records in the process. The 11 goals were the most Flagler has scored since 2007 when the Saints had the same amount at Florida College on Oct. 26, 2007, while the team's shots (54) and shots on goal (28) is at the top of the record book after breaking the previous records set at Georgia Southwestern last season with shots (41) and on goal (23). Flagler also had 13 corner kicks while limiting Albany State (1-12, 0-8) to zero.
Chloe Byrne began the 11-goal onslaught with her score in the ninth minute, and then Castorino Mujica (via
Jess Leach) was next in the 17th minute and
Emery Biggs (via
Shannon Matthaei) followed in the 19th minute.
Andrea Fernandez joined the scoring party with an assist to
Moa Arlebo in the 30th minute for her first goal of the season, then she scored on herself thanks to a pass from Matthaei.
Next, it was
Brin Wexler with a goal (via
Josefine Nilsen) in the 40th minute, and then she assisted Arlebo's second of the day before halftime to make it 7-nil Saints. Scoring the first goal of the second half was the senior Habeeb (via Nilsen) and Nilsen (via
Gabi Flores) deposited her ninth score of the season for the 9-0 advantage. The final two goals came from Fernandez as she scored her second for her team-leading 10th goal in the 84th minute from Arlebo, and then Arlebo took a pass from Biggs to secure a hat trick and the Saints' historic victory on Senior Day.
In goal,
Madison North and
Nadia Fung split the time and registered 45 minutes each. Each saw a shot on goal as Fung had the lone shot on goal for the Golden Rams in the second half.
