ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — One goal was all the Flagler College men's soccer team needed to leave Saints Field with its third straight victory Wednesday, defeating USC Aiken, 1-0, in a Peach Belt Conference match Wednesday afternoon.
Matteo Costa was responsible for the score as he used a penalty kick — his 15th goal of the year — to put Flagler (7-6, 5-4 PBC) up in the 49th minute. The Saints had 10 more shots than the Pacers (1-12, 0-9), with seven on goal to their three, 21-11. Costa had three shots on goal while
Miles Shanley,
Jared Fuentes and
Jonas Schmitt had one apiece.
USC Aiken goalkeeper Joey Valenti hauled in six saves to keep his squad in it; meanwhile, Saints' keeper
Andrea Lubbia had three, including a key save before half as he dove to swat away Daniel Aileman's shot on goal and the Pacers' best attempt.
Up Next: The Saints will aim to keep things rolling when they head to North Georgia Saturday at 2 p.m.
