MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –
Logan Garcia recorded a team-best 10 kills and hit an efficient .381 to help lead Flagler College to a sweep (25-22, 25-20, 25-23) over Georgia College in a Peach Belt Conference women's volleyball match Saturday afternoon at the Centennial Center.
Flagler extended its winning streak to five and improved to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College had its two-match winning streak snapped and fell to 6-11 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Rachel Machovec added eight kills and eight digs while
Arianna Lopez tacked on seven more kills.
Rebekah Machovec contributed six kills and a team-high 15 digs.
Kennedy Muff tallied 34 assists, had 13 digs, and added six kills.
Ally Hall led Georgia College with 10 kills and 10 digs. Sarah Stewart added nine kills and seven digs. Lauren Talele registered 25 assists.
The first set featured 11 ties and four lead changes. With the score knotted at 22, Muff placed a kill in between the Bobcat defense and then a Georgia College hitting error gave Flagler set point. Following a timeout, Talele was whistled for a ball handling error to end the set.
Rebekah Machovec recorded all six of her kills in the match in that first set. The Saints hit .318 with 19 kills and just four errors on 44 swings.
In the second set, Flagler built up an 18-12 lead after a kill by Garcia and went on to a 25-20 victory. The Saints held the Bobcats to a -.056 hitting percentage.
Flagler scored the first three points in the third set and held off a furious rally by Georgia College to win 25-23. The Bobcats pulled to within one (22-21) but couldn't get any closer. The Saints needed three match points to put the stubborn Bobcats away.
Flagler visits conference rival USC Aiken on Friday (Oct. 8) for a 6 p.m. match.
