Flagler keeps on rolling with a sweep of Georgia College Saturday

ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College won its 13th consecutive regular season Peach Belt Conference match with a sweep of Georgia College (25-18, 25-19, 25-19) Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

The Saints extended their winning streak this season to nine matches. Flagler improved to 14-3 overall and is 7-0 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College dropped to 8-14 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

Jordan Berglin recorded a match-high 11 kills, hit .280, and added seven digs to pace the Saints. Rachel Machovec added nine kills and hit .389. Rebekah Machovec finished with seven kills and six digs. Kennedy Muff tallied 34 assists and had nine digs while Edie Lamoreaux contributed 11 digs and had four aces. Molly Boyd recorded four block assists.

Abby Hall led the Bobcats with 10 kills and she added eight digs to her line. Sarah Stewart contributed eight kills and six digs. Lauren Talele tallied 23 assists while Bella DeSalvo collected a match-high 12 digs.

The Saints came out on fire in the first set as they scored the first three points and built a 17-7 lead. The Bobcats were able to withstand the rush and whittled away at the deficit to pull to within three (19-16) after a Flagler hitting error. A kill by Arianna Lopez sparked a 6-2 run by the Saints to close the set.

The second set featured 11 ties and four lead changes. Trailing 16-12, the Saints would score eight consecutive points to take the lead for good. Lamoreaux had a pair of aces in the set. The first tied the score at 16 and the following one gave Flagler a 17-16 lead.

Flagler jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the third set. Georgia College would rally to pull to within one (16-15) but couldn't get any closer. The Saints went on to score the next five points to pull away. Berglin and Rachel Machovec each had five kills for the Saints in that set. Berglin hit .833 while Machovec hit .444. As a team, Flagler hit .393 with 15 kills and just four errors on 28 swings.

Flagler steps out of conference next weekend as it will play three matches in the South Region Crossover in Winter Haven, Florida. The Saints play a team to be determined from the Gulf South Conference on Friday (Oct. 22) at 2:30 p.m.
