Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late run pushes Flagler past Young Harris in home opener

ST. AUGUSTINE – Marcus Henderson's three-pointer with 7:08 left in the game gave Flagler College a lead (71-69) it would not relinquish in an 87-76 victory over Young Harris College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler improved to 3-2 overall and evened its league record to 1-1. Young Harris dropped to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

"I am excited to see so many guys contribute for a big conference win," said head coach Chad Warner. "I have great respect for Young Harris and how they play. I was really pleased with our team's effort."

Henderson's trey helped spark a 15-2 run by the Saints and he capped the spurt with another triple, his sixth of the game. Henderson finished with a season-high 22 points.

The Mountain Lions took the lead (62-61) in the second half after Brian Free sank a pair of free throws with 11:27 left. A pair of layups by Chinecherem Anukaenyi followed to increase the lead to five.

But the Saints kept the deficit close and took the lead on Henderson's three-pointer.

Jaizec Lottie recorded a double-double with 16 points and a season-best 12 assists. Chris Metzger added 12 points and eight rebounds while Chase Fiddler came off the bench to provide 12 points, all on four 3-pointers. Jalen Barr tacked on seven points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots.

Flagler made a season-high 15 three-pointers, which was the team's most since sinking 16 at Georgia Southwestern State University on Feb. 22, 2020.

The Saints took advantage of 17 Mountain Lion turnovers. Those were cashed in for 26 points.

Flagler also shot 50 percent of better (50.8) from the field for the second time this year.

Fee and Alphonso Willis each scored 17 points for Young Harris. Jacorie Archie added 12 points in a reserve role. Sebby Jean grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
