Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Securing fifth straight win, No. 14 Saints finding groove before PBC play

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The confidence is really flowing now.

Now on a five-match winning streak, the Flagler College men's tennis team is getting into its groove and showing why it is the No. 14 team in the nation as the Saints secured its second sweep in the last three matches behind a 7-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire University at the Flagler Tennis Center Monday.

"Overall, we played well. I can tell the wins lately elevated our confidence," Director of Tennis and men's head coach Thomas Hipp said, "so we are playing more our tennis. Our top doubles look good, but we need to figure something out for the third. In singles, most of our players started well and Luca [Bolla] and Rodrigo [Carvalho], in particular, were outplaying their opponents. Jiri [Jenicek] lost focus on the second set but was able to come back from 0-4 to win it 6-4."

The Saints (6-5) will wrap up its two-match homestand Wednesday with a 3 p.m. matchup versus the University of Texas-Tyler ahead of a 10-day break before Peach Belt Conference play begins March 21-22.

In doubles, Flagler picked its first point against SNHU (5-3) after Luca Bolla and Jiri Jenicek registered back-to-back doubles play followed by the third straight Rodrigo Carvalho/Rasmus Jonsson combo victory. The momentum continued into singles as Carvalho raced to the consecutive-set win, and then Bolla knocked off No. 14-ranked Willem van Biezen in straight-sets to get back on track.  For Felipe Carvalho, Jonsson and Jenicek, who defeated No. 49-ranked Bas van Biezen, the trio used two-set wins to keep their individual win streaks intact. Tommaso Bagon topped off the sweep with his hard-fought, three-set win, where he battled back to win in the third.
