Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Still undefeated in March, No. 14 Saints carry streak into nine-day break

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The Flagler College men's tennis team hasn't lost a match in the month of March.

That undefeated stretch extended Wednesday afternoon as the Saints bested visiting University of Texas at Tyler , 5-2, at the Flagler Tennis Center to head into a nine-day break with positive vibes flowing.

"We won 5-2 and are ready for a break," Flagler Director of Tennis and men's head coach Thomas Hipp said. "We have played a lot of matches recently and we could tell today. It was hard for us to get pumped, but we did enough to win the match. The opponents showed very good spirit fighting hard and won matches when it was clinched already."

Out of the brief break, the Saints (7-5) will begin Peach Belt Conference play as Francis Marion University makes its way to "The Fort" Saturday, March 21 for a noon start.

In doubles, Flagler secured the first point thanks to Luca Bolla and Jiri Jenicek's third straight win followed by Felipe Carvalho and Cedric Holzmann clinching the point with their first win as a doubles pair. The Rodrigo Carvalho/Rasmus Jonsson combo clicked for the fourth consecutive time to hand the Saints the doubles sweep.

Hipp described Jenicek as "on fire" in his singles match win Wednesday and it has been much of the same recently as the freshman has rattled off six straight wins into the break. Bagon and Rodrigo Carvalho can say the same about streaks as they both secured their second straight with Carvalho clinching the match. Felipe Carvalho pocketed his No. 5 singles in three sets, making it good for his sixth in a row, and then Texas-Tyler (1-8) won the No. 1 and No. 4 matches to void the sweep.
