Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

No. 12 Flagler sweeps doubles, hands Concordia (N.Y.) first loss in 5-2 win

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — On a roll.

The No. 12 Flagler College women's tennis team won its third straight and fifth out of the last six matches Tuesday afternoon as the Saints handed visiting Concordia (N.Y.) its first loss of the season, 5-2, at the Flagler Tennis Center.

"Today was a match for some of the girls to step up and show that they deserve to play higher in our lineup," Flagler women's head coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "We have to be consistent with our level of play and show that we are proud to be a member of this team. Winning all three doubles matches gives us a better idea where we need to go from now, and having three straight team wins helps us to go into this weekend when we face Montevallo and No. 13 Azusa in Columbus, Ga."

As Puebla referred to, Flagler (5-3) started the match strong as each duo cashed in victories. The power combo of Lixin Wang and Anika Nissen also carry the three-match winning streak as the duo has three straight in their pocket and improved to 10-4 on the season. The pairs of Paloma Martinez and Alessandra Traub, along with Florencia Massardo Brain and Eden Schlagenhauf, each got back in the win column as well to sweep doubles play.

In singles, Wang had the day off which allowed her teammates to shift in the lineup. Her doubles partner Nissen took her place in the No. 2 slot, and it was the junior who got back on track individually and clinched the match point behind a pair of 6-4 set wins. After that, Martinez earned her third victory of the year, while Vossgaetter and Traub secured their third straight individual win to match the teams three-match win streak and knock off Concordia (14-1).

Next Up: The Saints will travel to Columbus, Georgia, for a pair of matches versus Montevallo at 2 p.m. Friday followed by a 10 a.m. matchup with No. 13 Azusa Pacific out of California.
