COLUMBUS, Ga. — The No. 12 Flagler College women's tennis kept the foot on the gas Friday afternoon as the Saints won their fourth straight in 5-2 fashion over the University of Montevallo at the Walden Tennis Center in Columbus, Ga.
"Today was a great team win away from home," Flagler women's head coach
Rodrigo Puebla said. "It had been almost a month since our last road trip, and it was good to have the girls back into the road trip swing. We didn't play as good as we expected in some spots, but the other ones were able to step up to the occasion. We will need everyone tomorrow to face a great Azusa team."
For the second connective match, Flagler (6-3) started off hot in doubles as the pairs of
Eden Schlagenhauf and
Florencia Massardo Brain, along with the duo of
Paloma Martinez and
Alessandra Traub, secured their second straight doubles win. The tandem of
Lixin Wang and
Anika Nissen followed suit with their fourth straight win to sweep doubles play.
In singles, Nissen put the Saints up 2-0 with a win by opponent retirement, and then Massardo Brain and Traub took back-to-back straight-set victories to clinch the match. Wang used a pair of 6-1 set wins to secure the fifth and final point after taking the day off Tuesday, while Montevallo (4-2) took the No. 1 and No. 4 singles matches.
Up Next: The Saints will finish their two-match trip to the Peach State with a top-15 matchup with No. 13 Azusa Pacific University at 11 a.m. Saturday.
