SAINT LEO, Fla.– No. 6 (Oracle/ITA Division II Top 25) Saint Leo University squeaked by No. 13 Flagler College 4-3 in a non-conference women's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
Flagler (0-2) opened the day by winning two of the doubles matches to pocket the first point.
Lixin Wang and
Anika Nissen defeated Molly Helgesson and Nastasia Jedrychowski 6-4. The Saints won the point after
Florencia Massardo Brain and
Eden Schlagenhauf topped Marta Vicens Miquel and Anna Marija Bukina, 7-5.
Saint Leo (2-0) squared the match at 2-all after Nina Fumaniak defeated Amelie Vosgaetter 6-2, 7-6(0). They took the lead after Burkina beat
Alessandra Traub in straight sets. However, Wang, ranked No. 36 in the country, knotted the match at 3-all with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 31 Kristyna Jurkova at No. 2 singles.
The match came down to the No. 3 matchup between No. 28 Nissen and No. 19 Miquel. Miquel won the match 6-4 and 7-5.
