FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – No. 5 (Oracle/ITA Division II Top 25) Nova Southeastern University held off No 13 Flagler College in a mutual women's tennis season opener at the NSU Tennis Complex Tuesday afternoon.
The Sharks took the point in doubles as they won all three matches. The top-ranked tandem of Natalie Espinal and Sarah Wardenburg defeated No. 21
Alessandra Traub and
Paloma Martinez 6-3 in the featured match.
The Sharks won the first two singles matches, Nos. 5 and 1, but No. 28
Anika Nissen recorded the first point for the Saints as she won as her opponent, No. 38 Daniela Obando, retired after the second set. Amelie Vosgaetter followed with a 6-7 (1), 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Sharks won the last two singles matches, each in three sets.
Flagler visits No. 6 Saint Leo University on Saturday at 11 a.m.
