ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 7 (Oracle/ITA Division II ranking) Flagler College recorded the match's first four points in route to a 5-2 win over Rollins College in a mutual men's tennis season opener Tuesday afternoon at the Flagler Tennis Center.
"It was a good season opener against Rollins," said director of tennis
Thomas Hipp. "We had to fight off some nerves overall, which is normal at the beginning of the season. Our performance was good and we hope to keep it up for the weekend."
The Saints began by winning the doubles point after wins by
Luca Bolla and
Jiri Jenicek at No. 2 and Felipe and
Rodrigo Carvalho at No. 1.
Bolla, ranked No. 47, won in straight sets as did
Rodrigo Carvalho and
Felipe Carvalho to clinch the match. Jenicek won his match in three sets.
Up next for Flagler will be a road contest against Florida Southern College on Saturday (Feb. 8) in Lakeland.
