Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Winning five of six singles matches, No. 12 Flagler tops Rollins

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The Flagler women's tennis team was back on the courts Friday for the first time since clashing with the nation's top team nearly a week ago.

The No. 12-ranked Saints took the match from the Rollins Tars in 5-2 fashion, losing just one singles match and taking five after dropping the doubles point at the Flagler Tennis Center.

"We are still trying to work our doubles combinations, and we have to apply things a little better in match time like the way we do in practice," Flagler women's tennis head coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "But after losing the doubles point, we came out very strong in singles and we were able to put it all together and finish with a great win."

Flagler (3-3) will take one day off before suiting up for its Peach Belt Conference opener versus Lander at 10 a.m. Sunday back on the Saints' home courts.

In doubles, Lixin Wang and Anika Nissen secured their doubles win, but the Tars (3-3) took the other two from the duos of Eden Schlagenhauf/Amelie Vossgaetter and Florencia Massardo Brain/Paloma Martinez.

That point didn't end up mattering, though, as Schlagenhauf evened the score with her pair of 6-2 straight-set wins and Wang put Flagler up for good with her consecutive wins, 6-0 and 6-4.  Vossgaetter was next, taking both sets by a score of 6-1 and 6-2 before Massardo Brain almost pulled out the second set but ultimately fell.

Nissen clinched the match, taking her 6-2 sets in a row and then, Alessandra Traub gave the Saints their fifth and final point with her 7-5 and 6-1 straight-set wins.
