Augusta rallies past Flagler in 11

ST. AUGUSTINE – Augusta University strung together four consecutive one-out singles in the top of the 11th inning to rally past Flagler College 3-1 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday night at Drysdale Field.

Flagler closer Ethan Jones (2-1) was working his fourth inning in relief and had retired 10-of-the-14 batters he faced until Trent Maddox hit a sharp single into right field. Pinch hitter Ryland Laird and Ben Markiewicz found the same hole to load the bases.

Mason Robertson followed by ripping a single back up the middle to score two. Jones retired the next two batters.

Chase Horton (2-1), who was in his third inning of work in the bottom of the 11th, retired the Saints in order. He held the Saints to one hit and struck out three.

Flagler (10-6 overall, 2-5 PBC) got on the board first with a run in the second inning. Connor Laspina belted a triple to the left-center field gap and scored on Josh Shrouder's single to left.

Augusta (4-10, 2-5) got the game-tying run in the seventh. Maddox hit a lead-off double, moved to third on a double play and then scored on a wild pitch.

Will Cantrell allowed one run on seven hits over eight innings for the Jaguars.

Maddox went 2-for-5 with the double and he scored two runs. Markiewicz had two singles.

Jones surrendered two runs on five hits in four innings of work for Flagler. He walked three and fanned six.

J.T. Marr collected two singles while Laspina went 2-for-3 with the triple and he scored the lone run.

Zach Audet allowed one run and three hits in his first start for the Saints. He fanned four and walked two.

The same two teams meet tomorrow at 2 p.m.
