Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Saints run past the Lakers

ST. AUGUSTINE – Gedi Juozapaitis recorded his sixth double-double of the season with a pair of game-highs, 27 points and 11 rebounds, as Flagler College rolled to a 93-74 win over Clayton State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler (13-14 overall, 9-10 PBC) got off to an 8-2 start and never looked back.

The Saints held a 51-34 lead at the half with the help of 42.1 percent (8-19) shooting from three-point range.

The lead in the second half would swell to as many as 26.

Juozapaitis scored 18 of his 27 points in the first half. He finished the game 11-of-21 from the field and 5-of-9 from long range. Damir Hadzic came off the bench to add 16 points and seven rebounds while Derrick Ellis, Jr. chipped in with 15 points and eight assists. Ellis was nearly flawless from the field making 7-of-9. Nine different Saints scored at least two points.

The Saints scored 15 fast-break points and dominated on the inside as they out-scored the Lakers 56-32. Flagler enjoyed a 48-39 edge in rebounds.

Kyle Kincey led Clayton State (7-19, 5-14) with 17 points. Ricardo Saams, Jr. added 14 points and six rebounds while Bryon Abrams contributed 13 points.

Flagler closes out the regular season on Saturday (Feb. 29) against Francis Marion University at 3:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.

NOTES: Currently Flagler sits in seventh place with a 9-10 league record. With a win on Saturday, and a loss by Georgia College in its game at Augusta University, the Saints would move into sixth place. Flagler won both games against Georgia College this season, which would break the tie. The Saints would play at either Lander University or USC Aiken. Both of those teams have a 13-6 record and face each other at Aiken, South Carolina on Saturday.
