Flagler pounds out 18 hits in 11-4 romp over Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. – J.T. Marr and Adam Mitchell combined for eight of Flagler College's season-high 18 hits in an 11-4 victory at Saint Leo University in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.

Marr went 4-for-4 and was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. He scored three runs for Flagler (10-5). Mitchell went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and two runs batted in.

The Saints scored an unearned run in the first and then Jaiden Warde hit a two-run double in the third to open up a 3-0 lead.

Flagler then sent 11 men to the plate in a five-run fourth to put the game away. Connor Laspina hit a two-run double while Aaron Anderson and Sean Lawlor had back-to-back RBI hits.

The Saints pitching kept the Lions hitless for the first five innings. Flagler used six different arms with Austin Kunde (1-0) getting credit for the win after tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. He struck out a season-best five batters. Derick Garcia started and went three innings. Casey Todd, Blake Hooker, Codie Lunday, and Jett Walsh all saw time on the hill.

Warde and Laspina both went 2-for-6 with three RBI. Warde scored a run. Anderson had a pair of doubles, scored two runs, and he knocked in another.

Saint Leo (2-11) used seven different pitchers and its starter, Jeremy Peel (0-1) took the loss for the Lions. He allowed two earned runs on six hits in three innings of work.

Brett Esau went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, he scored a run, and drove in three runs.

Flagler returns home for the three-game Peach Belt Conference series this weekend against Augusta University. The opener is Friday at 6 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
