COLUMBUS, Ga. – Columbus State University used a three-run fourth inning to defeat Flagler College 11-2 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Burger King Stadium.
With the score deadlocked at 1-all in the bottom of the fourth, Dane Bullock drew a leadoff walk for the Cougars. After a single and a sacrifice bunt put both runners in scoring position, Connor Kirley hit a single to center to plate Bullock to break the tie.
Now with runners on the corners, Kirley stole second and David Meadows drew a walk to load the bases. The next batter, Isaac Bouton, drew a walk to force in the second run of the inning. Flagler's Christian Kelly (0-2) was replaced by
Zach Audet on the mound. A sacrifice fly plated the third run.
That was enough support for Devin Dudal (3-0) who scatted eight hits and allowed one earned run over five-plus innings of work. Noah Windhorst finished the game to earn his first save.
Kirley went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and four runs batted in for Columbus State (9-3 overall, 4-1 PBC). Bryson Horne, Bullock, Will Wilbanks, and Matthew McDade each collected two hits.
Aaron Anderson collected a pair of singles and drove in both Flagler (9-4, 2-3) runs.
Adam Mitchell and
Jaiden Warde each singled twice.
O'Kelly allowed four runs on six hits in 3 1/3 innings. Audet tossed another 3 1/3 while
Bryce Leonhardt finished the game.
The same two teams will meet tomorrow at 1 p.m. to conclude the series.
