COLUMBUS, Ga. – Columbus State University used three pitchers while Flagler College's
Colt Mink (2-1) went the distance as they all kept the offenses quiet in a 2-1 Cougars win Sunday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game at Burger King Stadium.
Jamie Boatright (2-0) allowed one run and scattered four hits over seven innings to earn the win. He induced 11 ground outs and seven more fly outs. Boatright retired 9-of-the-last-10 batters he faced. Tyler Cadenhead worked two-thirds of an inning before giving way to Brady Kais who picked up his first save of the season.
The Saints threatened in the ninth when
Jaiden Warde led off with a single. He was sacrificed over to second and took third on a fly out, but was stranded there when Kais got the last batter to fly out.
Columbus State (10-3 overall, 5-1 PBC) plated both of its runs in the second inning. Drew Webb hit a one-out double to right-center to start the frame. Dane Bullock reached on an error, which allowed Webb to take third. Bryce Delevie followed with a hit through the right side of the infield scoring Webb with the game's first run. Bullock scored later on a second Flagler miscue in the inning.
The Saints got on the board in the fifth as
Connor Laspina led off the frame with a single. He stole second and then took third on a ground out. Laspina scored on
Aaron Anderson's grounder to shortstop.
The Cougars were limited to four singles by Mink. He allowed one earned run and induced 12 ground outs and nine fly outs.
Anderson finished with two singles and one run batted in for Flagler (9-5, 2-4).
Flagler heads back out on the road for a game Tuesday against Saint Leo University at 6 p.m.
