DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University strung together four consecutive hits to start the second inning, which led to a five-run frame, in route to a 7-3 win over Flagler College in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Sliwa Stadium.
Josh Reynolds led off the inning with a double to center off Saints starter
Casey Todd (1-1). John Devine hit an infield single to put runners on the corners and Cody Forster drove in the first run with a double to left-center. Jake Mottice greeted reliever
Austin Kunde with an RBI single, while a sacrifice fly and an error accounted for the other two runs.
Flagler (9-2) got on the board in the sixth inning after
Alex Amos led off with a single and eventually scored on a bases loaded walk.
Jaiden Warde hit a two-run single to left to close the gap to 5-3.
But Embry-Riddle (8-2) pitching in the final three innings retired the Flagler batters in order.
Dillon Moran (1-0) tossed five scoreless innings and scattered three hits to record the win. He retired 12 batters on fly outs and two more on ground outs. The Eagles used four different relievers the rest of the way.
Kyle Guttveg and Forster each went 2-for-3 with a double, scored a run, and drove in another.
Todd tossed one-plus innings and allowed three runs on three hits. Kunde,
Jett Walsh,
Blake Hooker, and
Bryce Leonhardt worked in relief.
Warde collected two singles and drove in two runs for the Saints. Amos,
J.T. Marr, and
Josh Shrouder each hit a single.
Flagler heads to Columbus, Georgia for a three-game weekend Peach Belt Conference series against Columbus State University. The first game is Friday (Feb. 21) at 6 p.m.
