ST. AUGUSTINE – Lander University shot 62.3 percent from the field in the first half and rode that to an 82-60 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Lander (13-4 overall, 7-2 PBC) closed the first half on a 19-5 run to take a 44-29 lead into the locker rooms. They scored six-of-the-first-eight points in the second half to take a 50-31 lead.
DeShundre Rucker scored a game-high 18 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field for the Bearcats. Deon Berrien added 15 points while Elijah Alston chipped in with 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Tyler Brevard contributed 10 points.
Lander out-rebounded Flagler 42-17.
Gedi Juozapaitis led the Saints with 14 points while
Damir Hadzic came off the bench to add 11 points and five rebounds.
Damerit Brown tallied nine points.
Derrick Ellis, Jr. contributed seven points and a game-high 10 assists.
The Saints were held to six made 3-pointers.
Flagler will look to regroup against Francis Marion University on Saturday at Florence, South Carolina at 3:30 p.m.
