WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 14-ranked (United Soccer Coaches Association Division II Top 25) Palm Beach Atlantic University used goals from three different players to topple visiting Flagler College 3-1 in non-conference men's soccer action at Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Athletic Campus on Wednesday night.
The Saints (0-6) got a free kick goal from
Eden Shachar in the 63rd minute to pull within two, but ultimately ran out of time against one of the nation's top teams.
Flagler battled the Palm Beach Atlantic (5-0-1) evenly through the first half hour, but Cadu Casatis notched his first goal of the season with just under 15 minutes to play before halftime to put the hosts ahead 1-0.
Marc Hebbeker extended the Palm Beach Atlantic lead to 2-0 just 55 seconds into the second half and the Sailfish pushed the advantage to 3-0 in the 63rd minute on Claudio Rivadeneira's fourth goal of the year.
The Saints answered under a minute later when a Palm Beach Atlantic foul offered a free kick opportunity from 30 yards out. Shachar's shot deflected off the Sailfish wall and past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Elliott Barker to pull the Saints to within 3-1.
But that was as close as Flagler would get as the Sailfish saw out the final 26 minutes unblemished.
Shachar paced the Saints with two shots and keeper
Andrea Lubbia made three saves in 90 minutes of action. Palm Beach Atlantic outshot Flagler 17-4 and ended the night with a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Saints return home to Saints Field on Saturday (Sept. 28) for their final non-conference match before Peach Belt Conference play begins. Flagler hosts Trinity Baptist College in a 6 p.m. kickoff as part of Saints Weekend.
