Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Flagler men rout Trinity Baptist, 8-1

ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College's Dan McGuire scored the second most points in a match (9) in the program's history after scoring three goals and assisting on three more in an 8-1 rout of Trinity Baptist College in a non-conference men's soccer match Saturday night at Saints Field.

Flagler improved to 1-6-0 on the season while Trinity Baptist fell to 1-7-0.

McGuire scored the first goal of the match in the 15th minute when he chipped a shot over the keeper. His other two goals came in the second half, just a little over a minute apart. He scored in the 51st minute and then found the back of the net in the 53rd minute to give Flagler a 7-1 lead.

His three assists was one shy of tying a school single-match record.

Fannar Fjolnisson added a pair of goals. His unassisted tally in the 23rd minute proved to be the difference in the match. Owen Punselie added a pair of goals while Jonas Schmitt capped the scoring barrage in the 65th minute.

The eight goals scored by Flagler were the most in a match since routing Brewton-Parker College 8-0 on Sept. 2, 2006.

A couple of team records fell in the victory. The seven assists bested the previous mark of five, which had been done several times, with the last coming Nov. 3, 2015 against the University of Montevallo. The 23 points (eight goals and seven assists) shatters the old record of 19, which occurred vs. Saint Xavier University on Oct. 13, 2011. The 34 shots taken by Flagler broke the school record, which was 31 vs. St. Thomas University on Oct. 12, 2008.

Andrea Lubbia only faced one shot. Trinity Baptist used two keepers, Breshon Bradford and Kyle Aultman. Bradford recorded seven saves while Aultman had five.

Flagler hosts Nova Southeastern University on Tuesday (Oct. 1) at 6:30 p.m. at Saints Field.
