Lindenwood sweeps Flagler

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Lindenwood University held Flagler College to a season-low hitting percentage (.069) in a 25-19, 25-18, 25-18 sweep in a non-conference volleyball match Friday evening at Robert F. Hyland Arena.

Lindenwood improved to 4-1 on the season while Flagler dipped to 5-4.
 
Rebekah Machovec led the Saints with 10 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Karlie Redfern added seven kills and 10 digs. Kennedy Muff tallied 22 assists while Kayla Norelli collected 10 digs. Jordan Taylor and Muff each had three total blocks.

Kelly Wilson led the Lions with a match-high 11 kills and she finished with a .471 hitting percentage. Sadie Kosciuk added 10 kills and hit .444. Maider Sancho just missed a double-double as she recorded nine kills to go along with 11 digs. Annalise Harry registered 36 assists while Kaitlyn Chan gathered a match-high 13 digs.

Lindenwood hit .248 as a team and recorded 7.0 total team blocks. The Lions also had six aces.

Flagler held a 13-12 lead in the first set, but Lindenwood went on a 6-1 run and went on to win 25-19. Sancho, Wilson, and Kosciuk each recorded four kills for the Lions. Redfern had three of Flagler's five kills.

In the second set, the Saints trailed early (7-3), but was able to tie the score at 12 after an ace by Rachel Porada. The Lions closed the set on an 8-2 run. Flagler was held to a .000 hitting percentage (9 kills, 9 errors, 29 attempts).

Lindenwood opened the third set on a 7-3 run, but Flagler was able to rally to close to one (11-10) after a Lindsay Glynn kill. The Lions went on a 6-3 run, which was enough to pull away from the Saints. Despite losing the set, Rebekah Machovec racked up six kills and hit .750 as she had eight errorless swings.  

Flagler concludes the Lindenwood Challenge with two matches tomorrow, Maryville University at 10 a.m. and McKendree University at 2 p.m. All times are Central.
